  • Event Chairman: Luanne Johns, NCTM
  • Entry Deadline February 1st
  • Event Date Saturday, March 8th
  • Location First Baptist Church in Conroe
  • Purpose: To enable piano, vocal and instrumental students to perform for a judge who points out good qualities and areas that need attention. To develop interest and appreciation of the major style periods and to stimulate interest and appreciation for jazz and popular styles and encourage creativity.
  • Other requirements and information is listed in the yearbook.

The Festival entrants play in small groups of students for an audience of their peers, parents, teachers, and others. There are NO children UNDER THE AGE of 5 allowed in the performance room. As in a recital, the group remains in the room for the duration of all performances of students in a group. Usually our Festivals last from 9 until 1; however, this time frame will depend on the number of entries.

Two judges are present in each room, but only one judge writes a critique on a student. This allows the festival to continue without stopping because one judge can be writing comments about the previous student while the other judge listens to the next student.

Students may perform 1, 2, or 3 selections with or without musical scores. Three movement Sonatas or Sonatinas are also allowed; however, there will be a 10 minutes time limit for each student's total performance. Pieces need not be memorized, and can include classical, jazz, popular, a student's own improvisation, or teaching pieces. No taped accompaniments will be allowed.

Students who receive a Superior are eligible to enter the All Star Festival at the TMTA Convention in June, which will be held in Houston for 2008 and 2009.

Entry forms are available in the yearbook and online at www.conroemta.org under “Forms.” Back to Calendar...
