Betty Clampitt Piano Contest

  • The contest is named in honor of a CMTA member who helped to build our organization before her passing.
  • All entrants play music from the prescribed music selections by memory for judges.

    The students entering levels 1 – 6 play two (2) pieces chosen from the three possible selections found in the yearbook. Students entering levels 7 – 12 play the one piece listed in the yearbook. Students may enter their school grade level or one level above, but may not enter below their school grade.

    NO theory test is required. Trophies are given for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners and ribbons for honorable mention. Teachers will receive a certificate of participation and the judges’ critiques for each of their student participants. These will be available for pick up at the Winners’ Recital.

    A Winners’ Recital is presented the same evening (7 p.m.) of the contest day which will both take place at the First Baptist Church in Conroe. Teachers are notified of their students’ selection and the place they received.

    First and Second Place Winners in levels 1 – 6 will perform one piece from the two competition pieces. First Place Winners in levels 7 – 12 will perform in the recital. Awards will be given to all Winners (1st – 3rd places and honorable mention) following the performances. Awards not picked up by students will be available for teachers to pick up following the recital.

    This is a great event, and we look forward to hearing many fine young musicians at the contest!
