The Legacy Concerto Competition

A New Competition for Young Pianists and Instrumentalists
Elementary Grades through High School

The Legacy Concerto Competition is sponsored by the Conroe Music Teacher’s Association, (CMTA) of Conroe, Texas, and surrounding communities. This competition is to promote the exciting art form of concerto performance for all developing pianists and instrumental soloists - normally reserved for only the most accomplished musicians. The goal of the competition is to bring a new level of energy and challenge to our studednts, to provide a measurable goal of being a featured soloist with an orchestra or chamber ensemble.

The Name, The Legacy Concerto Competition, is designated to honor the teaching heritage of Josef and Rosina Lhevinne. These great master performers and teachers of the Russian School of Music played and taught extensively between 1930 – 1969 at the Julliard School of Music in New York City. The Lhevinne’s example of pianistic excellence affected all arenas of musical performance in America’s journey toward making world renowned artists. Pianists under Rosina Lhevinne’s tutelage include John Browning, Van Cliburn, Mischa Dichter, Olegna Fuschi, Garrick Ohlsson, and Shasha Gorodnitzky.

Three Divisions are established in The Legacy Concerto Competition. Division I and Division II are for the players age 15 and younger. These are to be newer players who have achieved skills as developed and promoted within the preparatory concerto works as listed in Repertoire List I and II. (Refer to Repertoire List I and II attached)

Division III is primarily for the high school student, with exception for the extra-ordinary talent of a younger player, performing the Standard Major Concerto Repertoire. Division III has two categories consisting of all string, wind and brass instrumentalist and a second category for pianist. (Repertoire List III) (All repertoire lists are partial at this time.)
